He was seating down and and when he looked up, he saw several people chasing a man who was fleeing Yio Chu Kang Community Club.

The next thing Mr Richard Jonathan saw totally shocked him, the MP Mr Seng Han Thong was ablaze.
He reacted immediately, and in a instant he joined the posse and gave chase to the fleeing man.
The chase carried on out of the Community Club and across the street the Chu Sheng Temple, where the fail man was finally stopped and apprehended.
He grab his clothing on tightly while the assailant`s hand was pinned down by the other guys.
The smell of the flammable liquid was all around the suspect and onto the posse. The attackerwas dragged back to the scene of the crime, awaiting the arrival of the police.
The suspected tried to break free by struggling but the posse held him tightly. He was scratched as a result. He does not look competent and behavior not exactly sane. He is believe to be in his 70s. It is believe he will be charge for causing grievous hurt with a flammable liquid.
The MP was on a hongbaos giving to needy and bursaries on the Community Club ,early in the morning till noon. The people around the tables notice the assailant moved behing the MP and squited some liquid on his clothing followed by a firestarter. The fumes immediatly set the MP shirt and hair on fire.
The MP was startled and he tried to put out the flame ,but was unable to do so. The chairman of the temple ,Mr Aw then jumb in to push the assailant away and help douse the flame. Some of the flame spread to the rescuer. The MP was dazed and stunned and described as running around in circles.
It was described like a scene from TV.but in this case it is real. Due to the flames, both men
were admitted to SGH for treatment, with the MP more serverly burnt.
Both men are warded at Singapore General Hospital's burns unit,one less severely.
The arrested suspect gave a mixed appearance when caught and when arrested by the policeleading one of the posse to think he is insane saying something in dialects.
It is believed that the assailant was upset at not being given a hongbao at the temple ,which
normally recommended by the organisations, especially the needys and elderly.
Meanwhile the MP was being prepared for surgury and grafting on his burnt part. Only the top
of his head was free of the flame, and he appeared to be in shock. Visitors were restricted from
visiting him.
On resident say that there were still 30 over residents when the attack took place. The closed hall were still serving buffets when the incident happened. The attack caught everybody by surprised.
Later, is was reported that some VIP visitors came to visit the injured MP.
It is expected the that attacked will be charged the next day.
