Newspaper a dinosaur in Internet age?
A writer commented of a world without newspaper. Yes that is correct, the parcel of ads in the morning ,that tabloid, the broadsheet and newsvendor and deliverymen could be extinct?
In the US, the kindle has already became widespread, allowing novels and books to be read. No more chunky paper, now digital and electronics scroll books.
Thursday ,Friday and Sunday News
It was reported that in the US, the Detroit Free Press only delivers on Thursday,Friday and Sunday. It means as one wag put it ,to die on a Monday and Tuesday, would mean the whole Detroit would not come to the wake because only on the News day, the obituary would be publish.
Yet another bite the dust
Another News, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer will post it own obituary if no buyer turns up soon. In UK, the Tabloid without the Sun girls, or the latest coup or daliance would soon find itself a has been.
Free News if you are 18
It has been reported that French President Sarkozy proposes a huge Euro bailout and free subscriptions for the new young voters. What else is coming to the world of the newspaper , in the world of wifi, tweeters and email.
Over coffee and newspaper, which one will become extinct is easy to decide, as I started the day with a black. If only news could be gulped down just like coffee. It was reported that in tiny Singapore, a readership of 3 millions subcriber based in four language, of 4 millions residents show a healthy apetite for the news or newspaper.
Declining Margins in Ads
The local news have faced declining advertisements in recession hit industries, much as the rest of the world. No business means no adverts. The daily ads are always used by wide ranging organisations for their announcements and it cost much less. However if moved to the cheapest, which is internet and email based, revenues could be lost due to the inability to collects fees or tax them.
Blogshops the new Commerce
Already blogshops are a handy way to shop for the young, and their preference in the face of the traditional news media has alarmed news moghul. How do you stop viral marketing or pop up or html pages ?There would be too many and too varied to control. As the inventors of the Internet has planned it, it is an free for all out there. New rules will be set to rein in advertising and entreprenuers in the net, ever since most agency govermental or otherwise ignored or did not jump onto the internet highway. The news giving is now in the hands of all to report . However the truthfullnes and correctness of the news will be taken with a pinch of salt. When one enters the internet world, not all are true, not all false . All are only for reading purposes only, as they said it ,for entertainment only.
All news are born free and truthfull
All news are born free and unfettered, until self interest show up. Which is true or not is the crux of the problems. It was reported that without the ads and the readership, companies will be badly affected. The truthfullnes of the News still retains loyal followers, there will be uproar if the news and the facts does not gell.
While the news at nine took longer to reach the passive watcher, the active new searcher can troll for the lastest news or incidents, and only confirm the facts by watching the late official new.
Thus in the end, the trustworthiness of the newscast versus the sensational blogs or twitters reported by many sources becomes the ultimate battle ground. Who can say the truth, truthfully and quickly, wins. And also free and freed from all obligations and interests.
As one of the founding father of USA Thomas Jefferson said hundreds of years back, between a newless goverment or governless news, he would prefers news for news are more enduring than governments.
Micro-Payment
Thus the owner of newspaper and magazine had thought of different mode to sustain readership.
Among them foundations with deep pockets, and micro-payments of cents daily. It added that readers, advertisers and government itself needs a robust press and the morning newspaper with the coffee should remain the fixture in all home all over the world. For withers the world without the Newspaper to support it.

Room with more than a view, Haunting for a room ?
Most hotels are favorite for people who were passing through, instead of dirtying their valued residence. So called `dirty` house do not get ready buyer. Recently at Ritz-Carlton Millenia,a guest was found with a stab wound on the chest. His body was found on the bathtub on the 31st. floor. The retired Japanese,60.s,staying in Club Street condominium with his daughter, was cremated on Friday attended by six family members who flew in from overseas. Foul play was not expected as he left a suicide note.
Assured
Now the GM of the hotel, Mr Peter Mainguy assured to the media that all steps have been taken to purifies the room ,including all heads of various religion, including Catholic priests,Buddhist monks and Muslim religious leader. The ritual cleaning done, the room is seal off for a period.
Dependant on occupancy
Another GM of Rendezvous Hotel, said, the sealing, cleaning and period of unused is dependant on certain factors and seasonal demand for rooms.
The purifications are also for the hotel staff peace of mind. He added that the Rendezvous Hotel does not have any sealed room or previous cases of suicide. However some hotels had more than history and and great views on their suite.
John Martin the butcher
River View Hotel , by the Clarke Quay Place, was the place where John Martin, a former convict with a skill of butchery battered SA tourist Gerard George Lowe , and dissected the body in the toilet. He stole their credit cards and impersonate them. His crime spans Europe to Asia. Bloodstains were found which led to his being found guilty and hanged. He had cut up the body using his butchery learnt at British prison and bagged the parts into plastic bags. They were dumped into the picturesque Singapore River, site of the Merlion icon. The tourists and visitors must have more than a fright on the murky rivers history when the plastics bags were retrieved. The tide of the River is such that it flows into the sea.
Seedy Diamond Hotel
The seedy budget Diamond Hotel, scene of the murdered Indian women found under the queen size bed on the 4 floor also had been ritually cleaned last september. The occupancy factors dictates the use or unuse of that room .Most furniture have been taken out and new one put in place. For those in the know, the room is last preferred and least occupied.
Mandarin Oriental Hotel
Also in Oriental hotel, now Mandarin Oriental Hotel, tourist Fujii Isae was choked to death by two men trying to rob her.
In the past decade, in the Hilton Hotel in 1970,s Linda Culley was killed ,chopped up and place in concrete cabinet in Cainhill flat. The husband Michael Charles Culley, confessed finally on his death bed.
For the local workers and staffs in the industry, have an altars in the basement or some location. This is for the seventh lunar month when the spirits are free to roam. Prayers and offering are giving for appeasement.
Ritual Cleansing
Also most new hotels before they open for business have prayers and ritual cleansing conducted by priests and monks of different religion. The Resort World at Sentosa, the site of a prison camp for gangster long time ago, is steeped with histories. The Camp commanders Huttons and the prison officials were attached by the inmates prior to a breakout. It was the most brazen in the history of Singapore. Subsequently, the rioters were found guilty after a long trial and hanged.
Blakang Mati
During WW2, the local name for Sentosa was Blakang Mati, meaning back location for death. It seem atrocities were conducted at the site by the occupying armies. So can we conclude that Resort World at Sentosa will be more than a Resort, or playground for the kids.?
Guest that do not leave
This is a phenomena that I remembered overseas in LA. Or more exactly in Century Hotel in the Avenue of the Star. A foreign stewardess was found dead, and cramped overhead on the cupboard. They was a spare room for cooking and free video channels at the corner. For those sleepless and jet-lag, the latest movies fits the bill. And in the room, there are lots of sliding glass panels and drapes. Apparently after the body was found, in the months after, some who can `see` spirits were reported to see the stewardess floating in and out of the room. Probably lost and do not belong there. And in the months, the big crash of the jumbo during the typhoon, the biggest to hit Taipei. That is for the record.
Sim Lim cleans up act is it too late?
THE Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) is joining hands with the management of Sim Lim Square to clean up the mall's reputation for fleecing its customers, making misleading claims and selling defective goods.
Talks are on to launch the CaseTrust accreditation scheme for the mall's 500 shops, which mostly sell technology gadgets.
For a start, the scheme will aim to rope in up to a quarter of the merchants and accredit the trustworthy ones among them.
The accreditation scheme, administered by Case, will also be launched for vendors in two other industries that attract the most complaints - the motoring industry, as well as the beauty and spa industry.
Case president Yeo Guat Kwang, who was at the NTUC Centre in Marina Boulevard yesterday for a family-centred event to mark World Consumer Rights Day, also announced that the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act would have a wider reach from the middle of next month.
Products sold by the financial industry and goods presented to consumers in free-trial promotions will be added to the list of goods and services against which they can file complaints and seek redress.
Another change to the Act was with regard to the maximum amount of claims consumers may seek, which will go up from $20,000 to $30,000.
To launch CaseTrust in an industry, Case examines its trading practices and consumer policies, and sets up dispute- resolution mechanisms. If a business meets the set standards, it will be given the CaseTrust accreditation.
Businesses that are accredited wear their trustworthiness with a decal that is displayed on their premises.
Sim Lim's advertising and promotions manager Sean Chia said: 'We want to give customers more confidence to shop at Sim Lim Square.'
My comments: Still it doe not change much some of the complains. Most of the ground floor deserves not to be patronise at al.It deserves a boycott . Local do not shop there.
Secondly , the smokers in the building. They seem to be playing hide and seek with the authorities. The low paid guards itself are smokers,(some). The place is only good for parts and diy place. The rest seems to be buyers beware. See the local patronise the shops, it ok. Otherwise, they are snake oil sellers. Foreign tourist beware! Comments here if you want free advice for honest to goodness shops.
